Review of The Ballad of Narayama (1983) by Adryan G — 12 Oct 2008
There's something magical about the way Imamura portrays rural life in Japan in this film. It hits you in the gut, and stays with you long after the credits have rolled.
Plenty of scenes that make you stop and go 'wait a second', but it's all blended together nicely with: 1) a solid script, 2) perfectly executed humour, and 3) a visually stunning landscape.
