Review of The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970) by Eric A — 18 Jun 2007
After raising the bar for film violence with THE WILD BUNCH, Sam Peckinpah wisely chose to tone it down a notch by making a Western that was funny & heartwarming (not words you would associate with Sam, for sure).
Still salty enough for a man to enjoy, though. Jason Robards is a delight as a reformed outlaw trying to go straight & the underrated Stella Stevens gives her best performance which managed to transcend her sex kitten past.
