Review of The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970) by Jeffrey P — 17 Jun 2008
To some degree, this film feels as if it were based on a play - there's very few settings, and many characters seem to wander in and out of them. Cable's an amusing character, and Peckinpah seems to delight in ignoring our expectations of the revenge plot.
Like many of his films, it deals changing times and how they affect people's lives. Alternately cynical, sadly nostalgic, and meandering, it's worth a look. Interesting use of split-screen storytelling.
