Review of The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) by Bob V — 29 Jan 2011
A Hollywood mirror/pastiche/parody/homage, hard to say exactly, and probably all at once. Many debates have raged as to which famous Golden Agers are portrayed/lampooned here, but in the end all that matters is that this film is a glorious soap opera with opulent sets, costumes, stars and above all, melodrama that could power a Kleenex factory.
One of my very favourite Lana Turner performances, and also the film that made me adore much under-estimated Gloria Grahame.
