Review of The Babadook (2014) by Himynameisart — 07 Dec 2014
I can bet GOOD MONEY! that the negative reviews come from people who just don't understand Horror films. They're the same people who like movies like Ouija and Annabelle. They Believe that JUMP SCARES make a film scary.
That being said The Babadook was a great film! Is it the scariest movie I have ever seen? No, not exactly. But it is scary psychologically, it's a film that gives you a very eerie feeling after you're done watching.
I have to give them tons of credit for not having even ONE jump scare! Not one! The film builds up and get scarier and scarier, so the first act or so might feel a bit underwhelming. The acting is fantastic! The little boy was so good as well as the actress playing the mom.
Hollywood take Note, that is how you make a proper horror movie!!!! I will say that I am sick! of Horror movies being about Possessions, the whole (my son/daughter is possessed or the my dad/mom is possessed! I am honestly tired of it! COME UP WITH SOMETHING BETTER! The Babadook isn't a possession film per se, but it's more of Monster movie, that leans towards possessions.
The end of the movie was ODD, that's all I'll say. Not a perfect movie but compared to the Hoards of Horror movies America releases yearly THIS IS ABOVE all of that crap. Expect Hollywood to do a "Remake" LOL.
I'm giving the Babadook a 9/10.
