Review of The Babadook (2014) by Gramatika — 23 Nov 2017
While the first 30 minutes or so of the movie suggest a worthy premise and offer some unexpected frights, the remaining portions of the movie are just unconnected, unimaginative and - to be frank - senseless.
Don't compare this to David Lynch, please - in this movie we have the bizarre for the sake of the bizarre and absolutely no underlying meaning. There is nothing to round the movie up and give it the coherence it badly needs.
I am appalled that people call this one of the best horror movies of the year 2014 - it only means that the average viewer has no taste whatsoever.
