Review of The Babadook (2014) by Ben M — 14 May 2015
Essie Davis freaking slayed it in this movie. The whole movie was essentially like watching the complete degradation of her mind into insanity and she nailed it. I didn't feel like it was horror so much as it was just kind of disturbing look at how slippery of a slope being a widow can truly be.
The Babadook itself was a little bit cheesy, but not so much so that it took away from the movie at all. The only reason it got four stars instead of five was because they broke one of my cardinal rules of horror, and killed the dog.
Never kill the dog. Outside of that, great horror flick.
