Review of The Babadook (2014) by C B Z — 11 Apr 2016
I REALLY enjoyed this movie, though Honestly, I have to admit I'm not a big fan of the "Modern" Horror film. This was a throwback to an "Exorcist" or "Psycho". The Palpable suspense, confusion and trepidation rather than gore and jump-scares set this movie apart and above, very quickly.
ANY parent, especially a Single-parent can identify with the mom and the difficulties their child and the world have relating with one another. The stress and isolation they both suffer demonstrate them being haunted by society long before the Babadook ever knock knocks at the door.
Every child has makes believe and sees monsters. Where is that line between firm parenting and protecting your child? This move sent chills down my spine. A+ (easily the best horror film I've seen in a decade).
