Review of The Babadook (2014) by Chexmix — 13 Jun 2017
Maybe it's because I really don't watch much horror, but I've seen comments and other reviews saying this movie in particular isn't "that original," but I personally thought this was one of the more original plotlines I've seen for a movie of this kind in recent years. Sure, there are tropes included (the idea of a monster lurking in the house itself is pretty prevalent in the history of horror, I assume), but on the whole the movie kept surprising me. And not with generic jump scares. There were scenes that were genuinely creepy and thought provoking scattered throughout the film, and throughout the whole thing I was curious as to what the ending would ultimately be. I left the movie satisfied. Oh, the acting and the general filmmaking were also very well done as well.
As usual, my personal opinion, view at your own will, but I highly recommend this one for fans of psychological horror/thriller films. And remember "If it's in a word, or it's in a look, you can't get rid of The Babadook.
