Review of The Awakening (2011) by Nerine D — 09 May 2013
If you're looking for new horror with a classic twist then this film will hit the mark. There's all the creepiness factor, the ominous mood provided by hauntings ... A beautiful set. Mystery. Probably not a perfect film but I was enthralled and entertained for the full time.
This is Downton Abbey meets The Woman in Black but without the oppressive landscape. The set is like an Edward Gorey illustration brought to life. For pure gothic aesthetics this is a wonderful film and a charming story.
