Review of The Atomic Submarine (1959) by Paul D — 29 Jan 2008
Submarine sci-fi flick that surpasses its b-movie nature. In many ways, the plot of the film is not too dissimilar to many contemporary films of the genre, and it is aided in sophistication by allusions to Greek mythology and a political bent rare for films of its time.
Sure, there are hokey special effects and the voice-over is pathetically obvious (or worse: hyperbolic), but as far as b-grade sci-fi goes, this is a cut above average, even if it ends on 'golly gosh, you've convinced me of the importance of the military' patriotism.
