Review of The Apartment (1960) by Rebecca R — 03 Feb 2012
It's brilliant, brilliance-wise. The writing is unbelievable. There are very few scripts from the classic era of Hollywood that don't infuriate me. In fact, this is one of best written movies I've seen in awhile.
The leads are phenomenal to make things even better. Wilder has achieved a true, erm, achievement here. It's the perfect balance between light comedy, dark comedy, romance, and drama. Although there aren't that many moments of utter hilarity (if you're looking for a laugh-riot, I'd recommend something else), the story is always enthralling, and the funny moments are golden.
A true masterpiece.
