Review of The Apartment (1960) by Jeremy B — 05 Jan 2010
Billy Wilder's Oscar winning masterpiece is both a biting examination of the casual exploitation and dehumanization that occurs within American office culture, as well as the most tender and touching romantic story the great writer/director ever crafted.
Lemmon and MacLaine have rarely been as funny and likeable as they are here, and MacMurray gets to portray one of the most memorably loathsome bosses in movie history before devoting the rest of his career to family comedy.
A film that remains as thought-provoking and entertaining as it was half a century ago.
