Review of The Apartment (1960) by Logan T — 17 Jan 2013
Usually found in those lists of the best films ever comfortably and reliably in the top ten. So I'd been eagerly anticipating watching this, sharing as it does, DNA with the classic 'Some Like It Hot'.
But this is very disappointing. Whilst it starts as a comedy, with Jack Lemmon renting out his apartment to adulterous businessmen in return for promised favours at work, it then gets rather bleak, as he falls for a woman in one of those relationships, who tries to commit suicide.
So it has a muddled, confusing tone, and no sign of a satisfying resolution. Bizarre and not very enjoyable.
