Review of The Apartment (1960) by Cameron J — 09 Aug 2014
A great romance from Billy Wilder that's both integral to his style, yet so much more. The commentary the film has about New York apartment ownership and business relationships has actually grown more relevant with age, but the love story at the heart of The Apartment is what really makes it a classic.
Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine are a joy to watch together, and their occasional musings on suicide some how manage to come off as funny, rather than depressing. Who though the guy who brought us Double Indemnity could also find that there's so much fun to be seen when a man adores a woman.
