True, this IS somewhat of a sprawling romance period piece. But it really isn't all that bad. The perfomances are quite good. I will give kudos to Winona Ryder especially for convincingly pulling off the character of May.
She played the part perfectly! As always, at least in my opinion, Daniel Day-Lewis and Michelle Pfeiffer are top notch here. It can drag occasionally, but most movies do. Overall, I'd recommend it.
