Review of The Age of Innocence (1993) by Alysia V — 25 Apr 2010
I have to say, this movie was filmed beautifully, acted splendidly, costume and set design were amazing, portrayal of the time period was spot on and the overall craftsmanship of the film was delightful.
However, it was very, very slow. It never felt as if anything was happening. It was quite repetitive - "I love you, but we can't be together.. Oh, but I want you!.. Oh but we can't!" over and over again.
I honestly just wanted to see Daniel Day's character and Michelle Pfeiffer's characters together, because Winona's seemed a bit too young and immature for the relationship. Cest la vie. Daniel Day-Lewis NEVER lets me down, though, and he certainly delivered a fine perfomance in this, as did Michelle Pfeiffer.
A well crafted film, but a bit of a snooze fest.
