Scorsese's second best (after Hugo), is a mesmerizing depiction of the aristocracy, and the frustrated relationships forbidden by society, in a lavish production, with extraordinary cinematography and a brilliant use of the camera.
The weak performance by Michelle Pfeiffer becomes less of an issue as the audience grows fonder of Day-Lewis and Ryder subtle performance.
