Review of The African Queen (1952) by Craig N — 30 Dec 2013
This was a very ambitious film for its time as it tried to blend in filming on location and filming in studio which was unheard of at the time as most films were just done on the studio backlot. It mostly succeeds but some of the bigger set pieces are considerably dated, it did not affect my enjoyment of the film though.
Hepburn and Bogart are just great as always and they have great chemistry. There is not much to this film as all it is is 2 people trying to sink a German warship. It plays out in a predictable fashion, but the 2 stars handle it so well.
Overall, an enjoyable film.
