Review of The African Queen (1952) by Tony P — 10 May 2017
Another overrated classic film. Sure, Humphrey Bogart had some amusing lines in The African Queen but Katherine Hepburn's character was simply irritating. Starts out as stuck up and judgmental and then turns into a fawning butt kisser and ruins Bogart as well.
The journey downriver was interesting in parts but dull in others so a mixed bag at best. Then the conclusion... absurd is one way to put it, the final five minutes got nothing but a roll of the eyes from me.
I don't get the appeal, is it because it stars two of the biggest names of the time? Not enough for me.
