Review of The African Queen (1952) by Edgar C — 31 Dec 2012
Two gigantic cinema legends team up for an unbeatable adventure film, massively influential and vastly underrated. Huston expands his horizons and creates a literally groundbreaking, landmark journey through the wild landscapes of Africa, employing the best use of Technicolor cinema has ever conceived and an almighty photography, resulting in pure cinematic bliss. An authentique breath-stealer, The African Queen is undoubtedly the reason why famous directors like Peter Weir, Werner Herzog and Terrence Malick could stand out in the film industry. Your main complaint may be aimed towards the unbelievability of the ending in comparison with the more realistic tone of the novel, but can't you give some room to the magic of Golden Age Hollywood that could make anything possible?
98/100.
