The Adventures of Robin Hood is pretty much the perfect movie: a beautiful color palate, swashbuckling adventure, chivalrous heroes, action, comedy, romance, and loads of fun. It has something for everyone of all ages and is the best thing to come out of the studio system.
It has enough exaggeration in the acting to make it feel delightfully cinematic, from the flamboyant Robin Hood played by Errol Flynn to the sinister Prince John by Claude Rains. This is one of Warner Brothers' first films in Technicolor and it looks still looks gorgeous to this day.
Yes, many elements of this film are inflated, like the colors, the acting, and the action scenes, but that's what makes it a great film. The experience you get from immersing yourself in this elaborate world is why we go to the movies and The Adventures of Robin Hood is a great escape.
It's hard to debate that this is the best movie adaptation as this is what most people think of when they think of "Robin Hood.".
