Review of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949) by David B — 09 Nov 2007
Disney Classics Marathon - The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad.
Disney's 11th animated classic is the last in the series of package films released to keep the studio afloat during the wartime period. In the first segment Basil Rathbone, perhaps best known for his role as Sherlock Holmes, narrates the tale of Toad of Toad Hall from The Wind In The Willows. This is arguably the best and most enjoayble segment from the movies released between Bambi and Cinderella.
The second segment sees Bing Crosby narrate the tale of Ichabod Crane from the tale of Sleepy Hollow. While it has its merits it does seem to pale in comparison with the tale that proceeds it.
In all, much like Fun and Fancy Free this movie suffers in the fact that it is two short movies in one rather than a singular narrative. This movie however is the better movie in my opinion.
3/5.
