Review of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) by Kevin G — 29 Nov 2009
Overall, watching this comedy was nearly a complete waste of time.
I mean, I can see why some people can like this film. It does have SOME funny moments and Uma Thurman's presence in the movie certainly doesn't make things bad either.
But I honestly can't see why I would want to watch this movie again. It's is "nonsense" film. The story doesn't make a lick of sense at all. The action is also laughably bad. Even many of the attempts to make a funny scene are so awful that I rolled my eyes at how stupid it all is. Many times during the movie I just sat back and wondered to myself why am I wasting my time seeing this. But I wanted to see the "final battle". I did want to see how it all ended. Maybe it was the ending that will redeem this movie. No, even that was a ridiculous piece of action and not worth your time. After it was all done, I really wished that I chose something else to occupy two hours of my time then see this utter embarrassment.
Is the movie so bad that it's good? Well for me, it's definitely a no. Maybe you may be different.
A message to families with little kids, the PG rating here is stretched to the limit with this film. The adult humor here is quite bold IMO, more bold then any PG film that has had adult humor in it that I've seen so far. Also there is a partial nudity scene involving Uma Thurman.
For those of you that have nothing to do one day and see this movie on the TV guide or at the rental store and are curious about it just because of the interesting title. You have been warned. Just pass it right on by. It is indeed a waste of your time. Let my review here be a warning to everyone that even thinks about seeing this.
