A visual treat, Gilliam's Munchausen probably resonates more with a European audience than an American one, but its incredible historically informed production values give it an enormous appeal for fans of sheer fantasy everywhere.
However, I will concede that it runs a little too long, and certain parts drag on a bit, like the moon sequence. However, its originality sets it above other films of the kind, which are all too rare.
Williams' odd cameo is memorable.
