Review of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) by Matthew O — 27 Apr 2014
The final movie of Terry Gilliam's Trilogy of Imagination, Baron Munchausen is, as the it says on the tin, very imaginative and downright magical. The age old stories of the Baron and then some are brought to life on the screen in a whimsical, surreal fashion akin to the also excellent Time Bandits.
Adventures include a trip to the moon, dancing with a goddess, challenges with the sultan, and even a few battles with Death himself, all presented in a fairy tail quality that conveys them perfectly.
There are some parts that drag in the movie though, and it can get a bit confusing at time, especially the final act, but overall this is one that definitely is worthy to stand with Terry Gilliam's other great films.
