Review of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) by Peter A — 10 Sep 2013
I shudder to think that somewhere out there someone is thinking of how The Adventures of Baron Munchausen could be done better with today's special effects, CGI and 3D technology. Don't get me wrong, modern effects have created cinematic wonders and made the impossible, possible.
But it seems like Terry Gilliam's Baron Munchausen needed his special, whimsical take on visual effects and cinematic story-telling. Replacing the death puppet, cheap-looking as it seems, or other similar elements with slick CGI would almost destroy every point the story tries to make.
This is definitely one of those films that needs no improving. It's special the way it is.
