Review of The Adjustment Bureau (2011) by William M — 14 Oct 2013
Free Will of Fate: which side do you come down on?
That's the starting point for this adaptation of sci-fi author Philip K Dick (remember him? "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" became Bladerunner, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" became "Total Recall", "The Minority Report" became "Minority Report", "Paycheck" stayed "Paycheck" and "The Golden Man" became "Next" to name a few!) story, in which Matt Damon's US Senator David Norris.
"You've just seen behind a curtain that you weren't even meant to know even exists ...".
That 'curtain' is the members of The Adjustment Bureau, sharply-suited bowler-hat wearing men(?) - that's left unclear - who make 'adjustments' in day-to-day events so that things happen the way they were supposed to: that traffic light that turned red so you missed the bus? Not necessarily by chance.
This is a slow-burner but, for me, I kinda like that whole aspect of philosophy, so found this entertaining enough.
