Review of The Act of Killing (2012) by Tex S — 21 Sep 2013
Mix Truffaut's Day for Night with Fellini's 8 1/2, add some Sam Peckinpah and Tarantino and what do you get? The Act of Killing. And, it's a documentary. Getting to a truth far deeper than a standard documentary or drama can do, this surrealist film gets at the banality of killing. Murder is a part of the culture in Indonesia since the 1960s as much as texting, Tweeting, and shopping at the mall is in the United States. Former "gangsters" and paramilitary leaders are filmed as they reenact their brutality, justifying it as "killing communists." ??

As of now... ??Rating: Pay full Price, see it Twice.
There is no other film like this, and I hope there never will be. This is not because of the quality; it is well done, but because of how powerful and affecting it is for the participants and the audience and the tragedy from where it stems.??
Peace,.
