Review of The Act of Killing (2012) by Clayton D — 18 Jan 2014
This is by far one of the most disturbing films I have seen to date. Ive seen some crazy shit...and literally thousands of films....and this one got me. Its something you just have to see. I cant really explain why without ruining it.
...but I will say that you will need to have a strong stomach. Its not particularly gory....but it features some of the most detestable, horrible human beings ever put on film. It is about the Indonesian death squads of 1965-66.
...and it is a documentary featuring a handful of the worst of these deathsquad guys....reenacting their crimes. No matter how disturbing it is, it is an incredible film....but I came away speechless, and probably wont sleep well tonight.
A big quote from the film:"War crimes are defined by the winners. I am a winner so I can make my own definition.".
