Review of The Abyss (1989) by Colin G — 02 Apr 2012
A film which demonstrates that despite the tons of cash that was spent on special effects, the script, performance and atmosphere are enough on their own to make it a good one. The crappy alien effects towards the end do nothing to detract from a very good viewing experience.
In my opinion, a movie, no matter what the subject, is eminently watchable when you actually care about the characters, and Cameron acheives that totally. Almost every time I watch this film I see some small piece of direction I never noticed before, and the supporting character actors were well chosen.
