Despite what you think of James Cameron there's no denying he makes memorable films and The Abyss is no exception.
Cameron crafts a beautiful visual experience through a somewhat predictable story and manages to capture some great acting from some of the more lesser known actors out there. Mastrantonio's performance during the drowning scene was near perfect and the reaction from Kimberly Scott equally realistic.
The special FX still hold up after 20 years even if they are starting to show some wear at times. Cameron is a master when it comes to FX and though not always perfect, they generally stand the test of time.
