Review of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) by Francis T — 11 Oct 2009
Pretty innovative for it's time, the 7th Voyage of Sinbad is build the same way as today's most Hollywood Blockbusters.
Thos movie revolves around special effects. So much actually that the acting is secondary. Mathews as Sinbad is certainly not the best choice. They took the guy for his looks and his abilities to swordfight. Most of the acting sequences are very amteurish. But that's the point. People were there not to see dramatic moments but special effects.
And does this movie has special effects. With a very impressive cyclops, an imposing dragon or even the fight between Sinbad and the skeleton in dynamation, you can only be impressed for a movie that is more than 50 years old and did not rely on computer animation.
A definite interesting watch as the movie does not age.
