Review of The 39 Steps (1935) by Jacob G — 03 Jul 2012
Hitchcock strains my ability to suspend disbelief to the very frayed ends with The 39 Steps. Too many moments within this film make me say "really? that's how it would happen?" and jolt me out of the enjoyment of the other things which Hitchcock does well here.
Which is weird because I usually don't have trouble suspending disbelief for most movies--so whenever the problem rears its head, it shocks me and makes me think that this is a glaring error. Otherwise this is a fun romp.
