Review of The 33 (2015) by Kelly F — 28 Oct 2015
I guess it is a challenge to engage the audience with a movie about a so well known event that many of us followed 24/7 on CNN or MSNBC (some followed on Fox, not me). Even with all that information, I was still wondering about the conditions the miners lived under and the decision making from the people above, responsible to find them, dead or alive.
Maybe those were also some of the motivations that the director Patricia Riggen had for breaking the singularity of the protagonist. In The 33 we follow two protagonist, Mario Sepúlveda (Antonio Banderas) and Laurence Golborne (Rodrigo Santoro).
Their voices and situations are totally different but intersect in a common human virtue: hope.
