Review of The 33 (2015) by Greg B — 17 Nov 2015
"The 33" chronicles the true story of 33 miners who became trapped in a Chilean copper mine for two months after the mountain shifted. Antonio Banderas is the elected leader of the group and tries to instill morale in the men as they await rescue.
The Chilean government employs the services of a drilling team to try to locate the men. I thought this was a nice story but it's overly reliant on its cookie cutter framework. Every convention of the disaster film is here which seriously drags down the grade.
The characters are underdeveloped and serve as vessels for shit to happen to rather than unique characters caught in a life and death struggle. This film while an interesting watch is highly flawed ------------------------------------ C+.
