Review of That Obscure Object of Desire (1977) by Art S — 30 Nov 2009
Just as in The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie where the characters are forever blocked from sitting down for a meal, here Fernando Rey is forever prevented from...ahem...satisfying another need. However, in this film, he is blocked (sometimes justly) by his love interest herself (played by 2 different actresses), thus elevating this perplexing situation to a battle of the sexes (or a sadomasochistic courtship?).
Bunuel's final film sees him in fine (droll, absurd) form.
