Review of ThanksKilling (2008) by Craig D — 30 Nov 2009

With every year that goes by, I genuinely believe that I've seen it all, and then something like Thankskilling comes around. In the opening of the film, a topless pilgrim (pornstar Wanda Lust) runs around the forest with her breasts jiggling all over the place until a killer turkey pops up, says "Nice Tit's, bitch", then kills her.

At that moment, you can pretty much figure out how the rest of this movie is going to play out. Thankskilling is the story that takes the Thanksgiving holiday tradition and turns it upside down when a 500+ year old homicidal, wisecracking Turkey is resurrected (via dog piss) and goes on a killing spree as he tries to take down a eccentric group of college students (including the jock, the slut, the nice girl, the nerd, and the fat hick).

As a writer of comedy, I can safely say that a good majority of the intended comedy that the filmmakers try to pull of in this film actually succeeds and manages to be very funny in its over-the-top crude, juvenile, and (VERY) raunchy way.

If you honestly do not laugh at what you see in Thankskilling, then you may be devoid of any sense of humor. The film is filled to the brim with ultra-bad acting, bad special effects, and bad continuity, but the obvious kicker is it's all pretty much intended and allows viewers to just kick back with some beers and laugh your asses off at the sheer lunacy this film has to offer.

Some highlights of Thankskilling include a very dark (but hilarious) hitchhiking scene, as well as a scene involving the turkey wearing (only) the face of a parent in a bid to fool the college kids (and actually SUCCEEDS!).

Though nothing to hold a candle at to the REAL horror films that have managed to be the best 2009 has offered, I feel as though this is definitely one of the best low-budget, independent comedy-horror films I've seen this year.

Great for a laugh with friends.
