Review of Taxidermia (2006) by Allen G — 27 Feb 2013
Quite possibly one of the most brutal motion pictures I've ever seen.
It's so difficult and grotesque but it's commitment and obsession not to move on from this gives it a thunder which leaves the viewer fully engaged whether they are comfortable with it or not.
Occasionally funny, always interesting, often disturbing and occasionally downright shocking. The final part of this film is exceptional body-horror that has a basis behind it- it doesn't even feel like it's trying to shock- it's already so trapped in itself that if the viewer has made it that far then they are ready for this.
Striking film making and certainly a memorable piece of work.
Imagine John Mayer's "Your body is a wonderland" but by a Hungarian Black Metal band who feature a self-evisceration scene in the video. Every line in that song will now freak the hell out of you if you associate it with this film- thank me later.
Don't dwell on it though... wouldn't want you to lose your head. (or hump a pig or spout out fire from your penis or get eaten by cats.).
