Review of Tango & Cash (1989) by Shane D — 27 Feb 2011
Despite what might be said about the back catalogue of Stalloneâ(TM)s career, especially his post Rocky IV years, Tango & Cash should be considered a half decent effort at a shot at Lethal Weapon or 48 Hours territory.
For a good majority of the film Russell and Stallone manage a banter which is pretty decent, yes a little corny, but thats what makes good 80s buddy-cop films good. The bad guys are over the top as always and Jack Palance is in particularly so bad its good form.
The jail sequence and subsequent breakout are the standout moments of this film, from there it all goes a little belly up â" the final assault on the bad guys lair is pretty dodgy really and lets the rest of the film down.
But overall, its not rocket science, but if you are after nostalgic action and stupid one-liners, Tango & Cash ainâ(TM)t the worst film you could watch.
