Review of Tammy (2014) by Ramzi J — 25 Nov 2015
I really appreciated seeing Mel Mac take on another leading role, and leave behind her usual shtick to push herself into an uncomfortable situation. This isn't the Mel Mac we first came to love in Bride's Maids, or the one that jerked our tears in Identity Thief.
No, this is the new, femininely charged, reflective, powerful Mel Mac that we want our daughters to look up to. The movie experience with Tammy can only be paralleled by that of one witnessing an eating contest.
The feeling of nausea and vicarious fullness as you see someone soak a hotdog in tepid water and fist it into their mouth. While watching Tammy, I had an incredible compulsion to force feed myself chicken wings, only to vomit them up scenes later.
Only a powerful film could induce temporary bulimia. Also, at one point I had to go to the washroom, but instead of missing a minute, I just voided my bladder into the 2L bottle of Fanta I had just punished my stomach with.
To be honest I was watching at home so I could have paused the movie but what can I say, Tammy made me do it.
