Review of Talk to Her (2002) by Alvin Y — 12 May 2011
Finally, one of the best Spanish movies I've seen in many years. Now, after watching "All About my Mother" and "Volver" (long time ago), I think Pedro Almodovar is now one of the best filmmakers of our time. The way he makes his film is with complex narratives, employ the codes of melodrama and use elements of pop culture, popular songs, irreverent humor, strong colors, glossy dà (C)cor and LGBT themes. Desire, passion, family and identity are among Almodóvarâ(TM)s most prevalent themes.
So, that relates to this film, "Talk To her", it has a lot of complex themes that seems to be at first very stranger but when you get on with it until the end, it's gonna makes sense a lot. It's like combining a romance, and friendship, with tragedy. Yes, there are characters who will die but I'm not gonna tell who. And also, yes, most of the characters did learn something about loving the woman whom they're caring and loving for. Imagine, a movie like this could make you think, WOW, a movie like this so simple, so poetic, and so beautiful, can be made as well by Hollywood, but I don't care about that.
Well, if this is not a good movie, then you probably miss something that Almodovar gave that you didn't got it. I'm sure if we think of the after story of the movie, then it would be an another movie for sure.
Once again, my favorite quote all over again:
I LIKE IT, I LIKE THE PERFORMANCES, AND I THINK IT'S ONE OF THE BEST FILMS OF THE YEAR, A BIG ENTHUSIASTIC THUMBS WAY UP TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL ALL OVER.
