Review of Tales from the Crypt (1972) by Zane T — 13 Feb 2010
There's really only 2 good stories in this five story anthology. The first and the last. The first is "All Through the House" with a young and hot Joan Collins as a woman who murders her husband on Christmas Eve, only to be terrorized by an escaped maniac dressed up as Santa Claus.
Most of the story has no spoken dialogue and the idea of holiday music playing over macrabre is good. The last story is about a bunch of blind men getting back at their penny pinching bastard of administrator at the nursing home where they stay.
The rest of the movie involves a version of The Monkey Paw, done with lame special effects, some storying involving Peter Cushing that involves bad neighbors and a story about a cheating husband. This might have scared the bejeezus out of people in 1972, but almost 40 years later, it's rather tame and a let down.
