Review of Tales from the Crypt (1972) by Irvin C — 16 May 2010
It was good overall, but not perfect. Stories 1 and 3 are solid. (The former was done better on the HBO series, though.) Story 2 is lame and predicatable. (Nice use of camera POV shots, though.) Story 4 is somewhat mild - kinda interesting, but a lot-less horror-influenced.
Story 5 is the best of the group and is even better the series' adaptation. The wrap-arounds establish the stories well, but the final twist is obvious. I also didn't care for this movie's version of the Crypt Keeper.
A solemn, more-reserved human? Sorry, but I'll take the undead puppet voiced by John Kassir any day.
