Review of Taking Woodstock (2009) by Donna D — 06 Apr 2010
Authentic and transporting but appropriately subjective, the film tells a tiny story within the context of a huge cultural movement and is almost more relatable for it. It is not an organized essay of ideas or memories, not by any stretch a comprehensive or definitive take on a generation, but in applying his trademark scrutiny of emotional detail, Ang Lee helps us understand the big picture on a more personal level by seeing it through the eyes of his main character, one alienated soul in a sea of others.
