Review of Taking Chance (2009) by Jenn T — 04 Mar 2009
For Zane: While I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion..and is free to voice that opinion, I feel the need to clarify a couple of things.
1. this is a true story... There was an interview with the real Lt. Strobl and he said very plainly that the movie was exactly the way it really happened...
2. Have you ever been through security at the airport?? Most of the TSA personnel is pretty good, but as in everything else, there's always some yahoo overstuffed with the power they think they have.
For everyone else: Well HBO has done it again. I just spent the last hour and fifteen minutes crying. If you have the opportunity to see this film do so. It is a true story about Lt. Col. Michael Strobl's journey while escorting PFC Chance Phelps home after being killed in Iraq. It has been a very long time since I was so moved by a movie. Although I have always supported our troops this just renews that resolve. It also renewed my faith in humanity as we see how well Chance was treated on his final journey home. What most people don't know (and this film has brought to light) is these fallen men and women, who have served our country and paid the ultimate sacrifice, touch every person who is involved in getting them home. The military personnel, the civilian personnel and even the general public who know that a soldier is being escorted home stops what they are doing to honor the soldier. I'll say it again... you need to see this movie. It doesn't matter what you feel about the war in Iraq or in Afghanistan or anywhere else for that matter, put your own personal views aside and think of the troops that serve our country and keep us safe from harm. They put their lives at risk to ensure our freedom. If you ever come in contact with any military personnel, take the time to say thank you. And yes, I know... if you're in this family you already do that.. My tag line on my personal email has for a very long time been.
FREEDOM ISN'T FREE....SOMEONE HAD TO PAY FOR IT.
If you can read this...thank a teacher.
If you can read this in English...thank a veteran.
I have never believed it more than I do right now.
May God bless you and keep you safe !!
