Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Callum R — 31 Jan 2010
Synecdoche, New York: Kaufman eclipses Eternal Sunshines plot by making it look mundane and linear. Synecdouche is a wonderous nihilistic approach to life exploring questions that even the bravest of director's would avoid. Mainstream? No. As confused and incredible is its combination of humour and depression Synecdouche is a truly beautiful film with some of the best dialogue ever delivered. It's scale is only matched by its divergent take on the meaning of life which it analyses' in such great depth it is truly hard not to be taken in by such an emotional and gut-wrenching experience... Unless of course you find this pretentious incomprehensible tosh. Slow and steady immersion rather than full on complication, for this it already rates higher than INLAND EMPIRE for maintaining that connection with an audience while being so distant with plot but like an emotional lover sitting right next to you. 9.8/10.
Rated: (15) Contains Strong Depression and Heartache from the start. Lacks any Moderate Schmaltz yet delivers an Intense surreal and thought-provoking ploy. Avoid Suicidal thoughts after the movie.
Total Running Time: 119 Minutes.
Final Score: 98/100.

I just simply cannot push Blade Runner out of my top ten films of all time, and out of all the films on here, I find it hardest to make a real connection on a personal level with any of The Godfather films.
