Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by Evan H — 05 Aug 2010
Excellent screenplay delivered by some very genuine acting. I found it very interesting that the pace of the cutting actually seemed to increase as the plot thickened, allowing the mood to become more contemplative and force the viewer's thoughts to shape his reaction as opposed to relying on manipulative editing conventions.
Add to it that, despite being a very thematically dark film, the majority of it is shot in daylight and often outdoors. These inversions of stylistic conventions alone make the film a unique experience.
