Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by Shaun B — 14 Nov 2012
Chan Wook Park is a director that has strong skills and solid talent on full display in his sophomore film. His style is reminiscent of Kubrick's and Kurosawa's and Kitano, etc. etc. He takes his time telling us a story that slowly unwinds into near complete degeneration of the human character and twists it all into a near mind-blowing conclusion.
It's not an all-time great film though due to the fact that there are finer movies out there in all countries and Park's style and editing, while sleek and cool and steady...it'll remind you of past greats who did it far before this and usually better.
