Review of Swiss Army Man (2016) by James R — 08 Apr 2017
I wanted to like this one, but this just wasn't my cup of tea. Swiss Army Man is about a young man stranded on an island named Hank (Paul Dano). He's in the process of killing himself when a dead body washes ashore.
At first he think the person is alive, but soon realizes that Manny (Daniel Radcliffe) who he names, has a ton of abilities. His farts propel him across the water, he can chop wood and strangest of all he begins to talk to Hank providing him entertainment and companionship.
If that whole last two fragments didn't blow your mind you actually might enjoy this one. There's a deeper meaning to it all. Since technically Manny is in Hank's mind (or is he?) there's a certain acceptance finally of who he is and going against the norm of what society deems "normal.
" The movie isn't long at all, but the pacing of the last half kinda just slows down a bit. I laughed a bit (cmon it's fart jokes aplenty), but for the most part I was kinda grossed out by it (it eventually even becomes something like a gay necrophiliac movie).
The movie is bizarre and wasn't for me, but if the source material interests you I would say give it a look on Amazon Prime where it's currently free to watch!
